All of Harbor’s developments include street level retail. Pedestrians experience new buildings through the street level. We believe that active, engaging restaurants, shops and services are key ingredients in making a neighborhood a place where people want to be. As a result, we look for diverse, local and distinctive retailers to open in our developments. We welcome your interest!
Success Stories:
- Pike Pub and Brewing Company — In 1996, the Finkel family moved the Pike Pub and Brewing Company in the lower levels of the South Arcade. After growing and then selling the business, the family bought the pub and brewery back ten years later, in 2006, breathing new life into the business. After a renovation and multiple brewing awards, the Finkels are again at the helm of one of Seattle’s favorite pubs.
- Paddy Coyne’s Irish Pub — Alcyone was a leading edge project, located in a neighborhood that had not seen new development in many years. The Harbor Team worked with James Schmidt and Patrick Coyne, the people behind the concept of Paddy Coyne’s and took the early financial risk to help open this new, bright, welcoming Irish Pub. Within 6 months the restaurant needed to expand from the demand. And, 5 years later, they are opening their fourth restaurant in Bellevue.
- Zipcar — When the DMV determined that their downtown Seattle location would need to move, Harbor was left with a large, unusual space on the first floor of the 1411 Building. In early 2009, ZipCar moved into the retail space, creating a central hub for its 250,000 members and enlivening the sidewalk with fun graphics. The team finds humor in the fact that they’ve moved from the slow lane of the DMV to the fast lane of ZipCar!
- Butch Blum — A high end clothier, Butch Blum has been a Harbor Tenant on 5th Avenue in the Logan Building for 20 years. And, together the retailer and the landlord have seen ups and downs — from WTO to the current recession. As Harbor values local business and good tenants, the company’s leadership has worked with Butch Blum, rather than against them when times are challenging.
- Chaco Canyon — Chaco Canyon was a vegan establishment known well to its loyal following, but that needed to take a big next step in order to expand its sphere. In working with Harbor Properties, the owners were able to build out a new restaurant on the street level of Helix, in the U-District, and substantially increase their following!
